Anita Ruth Freeman, 90, of Georgetown, Texas, went to rejoice in God’s love and glory in Heaven on March 19, 2024 surrounded by her children.

Anita was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on February 22, 1934 to Andrew and Julia Kundmueller.  She grew up on the west side of Cleveland, where she attended Blessed Sacrament and Our Lady of the Angels schools. Anita was an outstanding high school softball player. She graduated from Villa Maria High School in 1952 and received her nursing degree from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in 1955.

Anita began her nursing career working in pediatrics in Cleveland and then in Dallas, where she met the love of her life, William R. “Bill” Freeman.  They married July 12, 1958 and had three children: William A. Freeman of Plano, Texas; Robert K. Freeman of Merritt Island, Florida; and Laurie Stock (John Stock) of Georgetown, Texas. The family lived in Dallas and Detroit, followed by many years in Germantown, Tennessee and Lenexa, Kansas. Anita took time off from nursing to raise her family.  In Lenexa she returned to nursing as a supervisor and home health nurse. Anita was a private duty nurse for former First Lady Bess Truman, spending two days and nights each week in the Truman home. She had great stories about her time in the house, now a museum, with Mrs. Truman and the secret service agents.

Bill and Anita moved to their Sun City home in 2006. They had a beautiful 60th anniversary celebration in 2018. In addition to her children, Anita is survived by seven grandchildren and her sisters Carol Miller and Sister Thomas Kundmueller, OSF.  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her sister Dolores, and her brothers Thomas, Robert and Arthur.

Anita supported her children’s and grandchildren’s activities including school and sporting events and scouting trips. She enjoyed playing and watching tennis.  Her tennis teams won numerous championships. She loved vacations with extended family. Bill and Anita were very close with their Sun City friends. She was known for her fantastic sense of humor and her award-winning margaritas.  Anita was a big fan of Kansas City teams and her children’s alma maters (Kansas, Ole Miss). Anita and Bill attended Royals and Chiefs games while in Kansas City. She was a fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns growing up, enjoying her family’s box seats at the Indians games.

Anita passed along her Catholic faith through her deep love of God and others, morality, patience, service and her prayer life – providing a religious education and a powerful example to her children and the community.  She attended Mass every Sunday at all her churches including St. Louis in Memphis, Holy Trinity in Lenexa, and Santa Rosa de Lima in Andice. Anita was an extremely loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend.

Visitation is at Ramsey Funeral Home, Georgetown 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 4 with the rosary at 7 pm. Anita will be laid to rest Friday, April 5 at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Texas. The procession meets 8:30 a.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home and leaves 9 a.m. for a 10 a.m. service at the cemetery pavilion.  A Memorial Mass will then be held 11:30 a.m. at Santa Rosa de Lima Church, Andice, Texas, followed by a reception at the church (Carr Hall).
