Berry Creek Country Club in Georgetown will be bursting with golf championship activity over the next couple weeks for both women and men.

The championships for the men’s and ladies senior and super senior title will occur October 8-9, all under the guidance of Head PGA pro Patrick Chamberlain.

The defending men’s senior is Steve Jorde, who captured the 36hole title a year ago. He shot two rounds of 73 for 146 and a threestroke victory.

That wasn’t the entire story. A week earlier in 2021, Jorde captured the men’s club championship with a final 234. He clipped Ryan Tull and Chris Thoms by a single stroke for the win.

That victory was his first Berry Creek men’s championship.

Among the senior women, Dede Conner posted 165, good for a 7-stroke victory over Dorothy Lovett.

In the ladies field for the club title, Jeri Pack won. She shot three rounds in the 80s for a final 262. Dorothy Lovett had 265 for second.

All the flights in the club championships will be determined by gross scoring.

The men’s and ladies club championships will run from October 21-23. There will be several tee box options, all hinged upon the handicap index of the players.

Cimarron seniors

Who will win senior club honors at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Country Club this month?

The winners for both women and men will be determined October 8-9.

Joanna Davis and Dean Buschick won the titles a year ago. It was a repeat victory for Davis while it was a first time championship for Buschick.

For Davis, it was her second straight senior women’s title. She posted a 165 enroute to the title.

Michelle Jaques came in second with 180.

In the men’s championship battle, Buschick shot 159 in a tight battle among several golfers.

Kevin Kelley finished second with 162 while Mike Harkins had 163 and Kevin Schultz 164.

Senior Women’s tourney

The Shady Valley Country Club in Arlington is the site this week of the Women’s Senior Stroke Play tournament for ages 50 and up.

Entries are open to female amateur golfers who possess a certified world handicap index.

The field is limited to 96 players in the 54-hole stroke competition that runs from October 11-13.

Mina Hardin, a member of the Texas Hall of Fame, is the defending champion in the senior division. Linda Light is the super senior division defending champion while Nannette Wheelis holds the legends champion from 2021.

Last year’s event was played over Ridgewood Country Club.

The 16 women with the lowest handicap indexes at the event will be required to play from the championship tees of about 5,500 to 5,700 yards. All others will compete from the 5,100 to 5,300-yard tee box.
