VFW sponsors student essay and art contests

With a new school year underway, Georgetown VFW Post 8587 and its Auxiliary are sponsoring essay and art contests open to students in Georgetown, Jarrell and Florence.The local VFW essay contests are part of larger nationwide competitions, ongoing since 1947.

Two Justice Complex listening sessions upcoming

Williamson County will host two come-and-go community feedback sessions for its Justice Complex project this coming week.  Both meetings will be held at the Williamson County EMS North Campus, 3189 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown. Meetings will be held: Saturday, August 22, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.

Williamson County issues Burn Ban

The Williamson County Commissioners Court has issued a countywide burn ban effective at 11:05 a.m. on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, for up to 90 days due to increased drought conditions.The Commissioners Court or County Judge may lift the order earlier if conditions improve.

Williamson County selects 75 spots for November election

In preparation for the November 3 election, Williamson County Commissioners Court approved 24 early voting locations and 75 election day locations on August 11.

Williamson County commissioners review $411 million proposed budget

Williamson County’s proposed 2027 Fiscal Year budget is 2.5 percent higher than last year’s, about a difference of $10.3 million.Budget Officer Ashlie Holladay presented the proposed $411 million budget to county commissioners during a preliminary budget discussion on Tuesday, August 11.

Williamson County distributes $2 million in grants to groups helping communities

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved the distribution of $2 million in U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development funding to 12 recipients during the August 4 meeting.

Texas sales tax holiday is August 7-9

Back-to-school shoppers can save money on clothes, shoes and school supplies during the state’s sales tax holiday that begins Friday, August 7, and goes through midnight, Sunday, August 9.This will be the 28th year of Texas’ oldest sales tax holiday.

Justice Complex update: Commissioners again delay Justice Complex planning for additional public input
