Cimarron Hills Golf and Country Club crowned its 2022 senior women and men’s champions this past weekend with some familiar competitors. Both champions replaced the winners from a year ago at the Jack Nicklaus Signature Course.

Winners are Wayne Smith and Michelle Jaques, who are perpetually in the championship run.

Smith won the senior men’s championship 36-hole title with a score of 75-73 for 148.

Finishing in a tie for second was the duo of Jerry Achilles with 76-74 and Mike Harkins with 79-71. Both shot 150 among the age-50 and above competition.

Dean Buschick, who captured the title a year ago, finished with 171 in this year’s tournament October 8-9.

In the net score category, Bradley Schwartz tallied 155 for low honors while Thomas Dadoly had 161.

In the super senior division for age 65 and up, Larry Thomas registered 142 to claim the title while Terry Houghton had 146.

Among the Cimarron women, Michelle Jaques fired rounds of 87-84 for 171 and the championship title in the gross scoring category. A year ago she finished in second.

Tied for second with 182s were Betsy Marcom and Joanna Davis, who won the title a year ago.

In the ladies net division, Betsy Marcom registered a 2-under 142 and Kathy Gower followed with a 1-under 143.

Berry Creek battles

Berry Creek women and men have crowned their senior champions for this year, with some interesting and close skirmishes.

The ladies had to go to an extra hole playoff to determine a winner after Susie Teitelbaum and Jeri Pak tied after 36 holes. Both finished with 180.

Teitelbaum completed the initial two rounds by posting 89-91 while Pak had rounds of 94-86.

Following closely were Jean Strickland with a tally of 181 and Debbie Thrush with 188.

A year ago, the senior ladies winner was Dee Conner. The competition among the senior men was also a scramble among a strong field of contenders. But the winner was not a surprise.

Last year’s senior champion was Steve Jorde. He repeated again this year. He posted two rounds of 75 for 150, claiming the second-consecutive title by two strokes over Britt Donaldson with 152.

Paul McCarthy followed with 155 while Chris Thoms had 157 and Kevin Brady 157.

Champions among the super seniors this year were Terry Genebacher for the men and Carol Town for the ladies.
