Making a Difference: Georgetown Trails Foundation
If you don’t know where to find Dead Steps (also known as Tres Leches), Taco Supreme (hint: not at a fast food chain), Limestone Cowboy or Gotham in Georgetown, you’re not alone.
I recently learned about these spots from two officers of the Georgetown Trails Foundation, Vice President Aaron Zander and Treasurer Cove McCormick. Their relatively new nonprofit is dedicated to improving trail options for mountain bikers and others in our community.
We recently met at the low-water crossing in San Gabriel Park, where they proudly showed the start of the Katy Crossing Trail that heads east of the crossing under the bridge, skirts the south side of the San Gabriel River. They started cutting that trail in the fall of 2021, meaning they are going through dense, overgrown areas in public green spaces to create clear paths for folks who are into mountain biking, hiking and trail running.
