ART SCAPES
Small Works
The “Small Works” exhibit opens at the Georgetown Art Center Friday, November 11, and runs through December 22. The sampling of small works from selected artists is a juried art exhibit organized by Georgetown Art Works.
A reception for the artists is 4-6 p.m., November 19, 816 South Main Street Georgetown Art Works is contracted by the City of Georgetown to manage the Georgetown Art Center and is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in the greater Central Texas area.
Painted rain barrel winner
With a total of 252 votes, Michael Clark’s “A Glass of Goldfish” won the painted rain barrel project fan favorite award. All 10 barrels found new homes during the South Main Arts Festival. A total of $1,775 was raised through the silent auction to fund water conservation education efforts.
If you are interested in having a rain barrel of your own, the City of Georgetown offers a rain barrel rebate for water utility customers. Rainwater harvesting is a great way to augment our limited water supplies and is perfect for landscape irrigation. The practice can also help reduce your utility bill.
Residential water customers may apply for a $25 rebate for the purchase and installation of a new rain barrel once per fiscal year (October 1 to September 30). To apply for the rebate, visit https://records. georgetown.org/Forms/ rbrebate.
Congrats
The national Power for Parkinson’s program is highlighting Robert Kramper’s photographs in their Creative Showcase. He is a local participant who captures colorful native Texas plants, flowers and insects.
Photography is Mr. Kramper’s passion and has been a big part of his life for many years. In 2009, he became the unofficial photographer for the Williamson County chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas. He connects with nature through photography and enjoys a bit of meditation while he waits patiently to capture the perfect picture of a critter or rare plant.
Along with photography, he is also musically creative. His lyrics for The Native Plants Society of Texas sung to the Yellow Rose melody won an award and is now the Society’s theme song.
Featured artist
The Sun City Visual Arts Group’s featured artist for November and December is Wanda Rackett. She is a Louisiana gal who was a teacher of preschoolers, special needs children and then became an art teacher, which is her favorite role. Her goal is to introduce art techniques, explore famous and the not so famous artwork, and throw in tips on stress management to help you become the artist you want to be. Her colorful art is pure joy to see.
The exhibit will be on display until December 31 in the Social Center, 2 Texas Drive. It is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday to Friday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Barbara Chenault is the featured artist coordinator for the club.
