WHO: Mommie Support Network offers women a lifeline
At their April meeting, the Women Helping Others group heard from Alicea Jones, executive director of the Mommie Support Network.
The nonprofit organization was founded in 2015 to support mothers facing economic hardship and emotional challenges and help them reach “God’s full vision” of their potential.
Jones spoke about the organization’s programs, including Moms Rising Circles, support groups that provide a vital non-judgmental space for mothers to share experiences, receive guidance and connect with others.
The primary goal is to alleviate the immense emotional and psychological suffering many mothers face on a daily basis. By cultivating unshakable self-worth and faith, women are empowered to make healthy decisions that positively impact their lives and the lives of their children. In doing so, the cycle of poverty is broken that often ensnares vulnerable families.
Mommie Support Network believes in meeting moms where they are. The organization offers practical assistance, including food and clothing, to low-income mothers through its Adopt-a-Mom program.
Donors from the community provide groceries and other necessities to help families meet basic needs. Jones said these connections also help reduce the isolation many mothers experience.
