Former Georgetown Area Parkinson’s Support Executive Director Mary Jane Berry has passed the torch to Georgetown resident James Lavender. The group helps spread awareness while helping those suffering with Parkinson’s disease.

April is Parkinson’s Awareness Month, and World Parkinson Day is April 11. Happy birthday to James Parkinson, the English surgeon whose 1817 work described what would later be named Parkinson’s disease. The Parkinson color and symbol is the red tulip named for James Parkinson.

A Georgetown toast to Saint Patrick

Wearing green on Saint Patrick’s Day shows support for all things Irish. Ireland is known as the Emerald Isle because of its lush landscape. St. Patrick used the shamrock to explain the Trinity and green clover became an Irish national symbol.

Lee and Jetina Bingham are lifelong Texans. Lee hails from El Paso and Jetina from Midland. The couple married in 1984 and moved to Central Texas in 1993. Lee and Jetina now have the distinction of living in one of the first houses constructed in Williamson County.
