Williamson County Commissioners Court reviews salary study, adds policies

Williamson County Commissioners Court approved new county salaries for elected officials and new county employee policies during their July 18 meeting. Changes will be put into effect October 1, the start of the next fiscal year.

Williamson County issues county-wide burn ban

The Williamson County Commissioners Court issued a county-wide burn ban starting at noon on Tuesday, July 18, for a period not to exceed 90 days due to severe drought conditions.  These conditions include above-average heat, low humidity, low fuel moisture and high winds.

Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter receives grant from national nonprofit

Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter received a $100,000 grant investment Friday, July 14, from national nonprofit Petco Love in support of their life-saving work for animals in the county.

Wilco Budget Office receives award for budget presentation

The Williamson County Budget Office was awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada Monday, July 10.

450-acre harvest a last for retiring Williamson County farmer

“I was driving a tractor when I was 7-years-old,” farmer Larry Svehlak mentioned while I rode along in his combine this week.  Mr. Svehlak, 70, is a Granger native who’s lived in Taylor for decades. He’s tilled the soil for a long time, but he’s retiring after finishing this year’s corn harvest.

Williamson County farmers learn about purple corn

The Williamson County AgriLife branch had a presentation July 7 about a new breed of corn, TAMZ102, that is higher in antioxidants and anthocyanins than traditional corn.

Windsong Farm rider Jaycee Ferguson becomes Texas state champ

Charging through events at the Texas High School Rodeo State Finals, Jaycee Ferguson, a rider from Georgetown’s Windsong Farm, recently took home Texas State Championship honors in pole bending. The competition was held June 1-10 in Abilene.
