West Nile mosquitoes detected in Williamson County

The Williamson County Cities and Health District has notified the City of Georgetown and Taylor that mosquito trap samples have tested positive for West Nile Virus.

Williamson County approved new ballots ahead of November election

After lengthy discussions with the public about election integrity, Williamson County will incorporate consecutively numbered ballots in upcoming elections.

Williamson County offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day. All county operations will resume on Friday, July 5.  According to the news release from the county, residents may utilize online services that are offered by various departments at www.wilcotx.

Williamson County approves $2.27 million in community grants

Over the course of two commissioners court meetings, Wilco officials have analyzed community needs and discussed grant opportunities. On June 25, they accepted $2.27 million in United States Department of Housing and Urban Development grants as part of the effort.

Williamson County Sheriff’s Office makes multiple drug-related arrests

Last week, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office closed two different drug cases across Central Texas.On June 12, the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, alongside SWAT and K9 units, executed a search warrant at 417 East Rio Grande Street. in Taylor.

County cities gain revenue, new sales tax report finds

The Texas Comptroller has released the updated sales tax data for June 2024.  For cities across the county, most saw an increase in revenues when compared to 2023’s numbers. Most notably Liberty Hill gained 81.77 percent more in profit, earning over $575,000.

Waste Management — which runs the county’s landfill — will increase typing fees by 6 percent, or $3, effective August 1. According to county documents, the previous price of $49.90 per ton will increase to $52.90 per ton.

County promotes elder abuse awareness

By 2034, adults 65 and older will outnumber younger people for the first time in U.S. history, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.   With 19 senior living communities and an estimated one-third of Georgetown's population over the age of 65, elder abuse will become more prevalent.

The Bell Seal recognizes employer advances in workplace mental health by awarding Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum recognition levels. Williamson County announced that Mental Health America was awarded a 2024 Gold Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health during the June 18 Commissioners Court meeting.
