City of Georgetown to disinfect water system with chlorine

Georgetown will perform system-wide maintenance on the city’s water system from May 27 until June 27. During this time, Georgetown water customers might notice chlorine odors and a green or brown tint in their water for short time periods.Customers could start noticing the changes on May 27 or 28.

County provides update on new jail, road projects

Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey introduced new County Judge Steven Snell during the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce Breakfast Links on April 24. Ms. Covey also outlined ongoing initiatives by her office. Judge Snell was sworn in as the new county judge on April 21.

Rotary, chamber of commerce highlight Georgetown’s younger entrepreneurs

The first five recipients of the Georgetown Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce’s Five Under 40 award were honored on April 25.

Disannexed property changes course

A property that left Georgetown’s extraterritorial jurisdiction is now requesting to come back into the ETJ, with eventual annexation into the city as the ultimate goal. The ETJ is a designated buffer area just outside the city limits, according to the city.

Golden opportunity with this year’s wheat harvest

Several years ago, photographing a wheat harvest near Bartlett, I was riding in a combine with a farmer as he navigated his equipment through a field. The late-day light gracing the golden crop was so inspiring, I asked if it was okay to get out and document it from the field.

Schedule: 2025 Red Poppy Festival weekend

 Head down to the Square to kick off Georgetown’s 26th-annual Red Poppy Festival Friday evening with a live performance by Dysfunkshun Junkshun at 7 p.m.The three-day festival runs through Sunday afternoon and offers live music, food, vendors, family-friendly activities and parades.

Obligation bonds approved for city project funding

Georgetown City Council approved a list of Certificates of Obligation and General Obligation Bonds for 2025 that will help fund city projects. Actions were approved as part of the city’s Tuesday, April 22, consent agenda.
