Wilco discusses dispatch rates for non-county calls

Williamson County Commissioners Court supported the creation of a Jarrell ISD Police Department during its Tuesday, August 1, meeting. According to a signed agreement, the county will provide the school district with dispatch services and access to public safety software systems.

New nature preserve set to open in Jarrell this fall

Hill Country Conservancy is opening a nature preserve in northern Williamson County after an anonymous landowner donated 1,205 acres to the nonprofit. Named the Pecan Springs Karst Preserve, the property is five miles west of Jarrell.

Commissioners discuss Fiscal Year 2024 pay for county employees

Williamson County Senior Director of Human Resources Rebecca Clemons gave multiple presentations July 25 to commissioner’s court about updates to the county employee policy manual, compensation and other items involving county employees. If approved, policies will go into effect on October 1.

West Nile mosquito found in Jarrell, seventh case this year

A mosquito trap tested positive for West Nile virus in Jarrell, Friday July 21. The positive test was confirmed in lab results from the Texas Department of State Health Services lab in Austin.  The positive sample was collected from a trap site near the community pool on Sonterra Boulevard.

Williamson County farmers learn about purple corn

The Williamson County AgriLife branch had a presentation July 7 about a new breed of corn, TAMZ102, that is higher in antioxidants and anthocyanins than traditional corn.

Williamson County Fair and Rodeo awards scholarships to Wilco seniors

The Williamson County Fair and Rodeo awarded $4,500 in scholarships to three local seniors at the June 27 commissioner's court meeting.  Scholarship recipients were Ty Chase, Madeline Edwards and Paige Phalen.
