Johnnie Lou Schmidt Haak
Johnnie Lou Schmidt Haak, child of God, went to be with her Lord and Savior on August 22, 2025. Johnnie moved from Hempstead to Georgetown, Texas, in 2009, having moved there to be near her niece Ruth Haak Swenson, following the untimely death in 2008 of her husband, Bill Haak, to whom she was married for 56 years. Johnnie was born September 29,1932 in Monaville, Texas to John Herman Schmidt and Julia Frey Schmidt. Johnnie was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Louis H. Schmidt, her sisters Pauline Wollgast, Myrtle Carson, Doris Haak, Ruth Karisch Connett, Judith Smith, and God-child Kim Schmidt. She is survived by her brother, Gerald Stanley Schmidt and wife Paulette, sister, Patsy Dotson, special cousin Betty Rheman, God-children Rhonda Becvar, Perry Lea Harrison, James Haak, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who were all very dear to her.
Johnnie worked for the United States Department of Agriculture, ASCS, retiring in 1994 with 30 years of service. She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church in Georgetown where she enjoyed worshiping with and participating in the many activities there with her many new friends. Johnnie was also an active member of the SPJST Lodge in Round Rock.
The move to Georgetown proved to be the right decision for Johnnie. She enjoyed being a part of the family of her niece, Ruth Haak Swenson and her husband Jack Swenson and their children and grandchildren. Johnnie bought a home in the Texas Traditions Subdivision and there she had wonderful neighbors and friends that were a blessing to her. Johnnie enjoyed playing domino games and did this weekly.
In June 2017, Johnnie sold her home and moved to an Independent Living Apartment at the Retirement Community of The Wesleyan in Georgetown where she again made many new friends.
Visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday August 30, 2025 at Canon Funeral Home in Waller, Texas. Funeral Services will be at 2pm on Sunday August 31, 2025 at Canon Funeral Home, with internment immediately following at the Hempstead Cemetery, Hempstead, Texas.
Johnnie was fully content in Christ’s promise that she would be going to her eternal heavenly home prepared for her by her Lord and Savior.
