Leslie Booker announces candidacy for 512th District Court
Joined by family, friends and supporters on the steps of the county courthouse, Attorney Leslie Andrews Booker on October 15 announced her candidacy for the newly created 512th District Court in Williamson County.
Ms. Booker is a veteran prosecutor and criminal defense attorney with more than 30 years of courtroom experience. A Democrat, she said she is running her campaign on the commitment to fairness, accountability and a justice system grounded in the law, according to a new release from her campaign office.
“While I will file as a Democrat, the truth is that political affiliation has no place in a courtroom,” she said. “The role of a judge is to be fair, impartial and grounded in the rule of law — accountable to the law, not partisan politics.”
Ms. Booker brings experience as both a Chief Felony Prosecutor and a defense lawyer for the indigent. Over the course of her career, she has handled hundreds of felony jury trials, including murder, sexual assault and child abuse cases.
“My top priority will always be protecting the safety of our children, seniors and small businesses by holding dangerous individuals accountable under the law,” she said. “Justice means standing up for victims, supporting families and ensuring our community remains a safe place to live and work."
The Georgetown-based attorney also expressed her commitment to rehabilitation and community rebuilding for those ready to turn their lives around, according to the new release.
“For people who are not a threat to the public but struggle with addiction, we must offer a real path forward,” she said. “I plan to work with local employers and community partners to help individuals re-enter society successfully after they’ve paid their debt. Helping people rebuild their lives is how we strengthen our community and reduce repeat offenses.”
A long-time Williamson County resident, Ms. Booker served as the first African American prosecutor in the county and later served as chief felony prosecutor in the 277th District Court.
She has also led the Child Abuse, Juvenile, and CPS units in the Travis County District Attorney’s Office. Currently in private practice, she represents indigent clients facing serious felony charges.
“Every person who walks into my courtroom — whether victim, defendant, or attorney — will be treated with respect and professionalism,” Ms. Booker said. “Justice should never depend on your background or your politics. It depends on the facts and the law.
Outside the courtroom, Ms. Booker is a member of The Links, Incorporated Lone Star (TX) Chapter and an Ironman triathlete who has competed in more than 10 events.
“This campaign isn’t about politics, it’s about balance, accountability, and integrity,” Ms. Booker said. “I will always answer to the law and the people of Williamson County - not to a political party.”
