Wilco projects on D. B. Wood Road, University Boulevard progress

County road project updates

Commissioners Tuesday heard a road bond project update from Robert Daigh, senior director of infrastructure for Williamson County.

Precinct 1

Construction began on Ranch to Market Road 620 at Railroad and Chisholm Trail, from the Interstate 35 frontage road to Deep Wood Drive. Work includes road grading, as well as curb and gutter placement. They are also placing decorative treatments underneath the bridge and placing more railings.

The Texas Department of Transportation and the City of Round Rock are managing the project, with a contracted amount of $27,468,703. Anticipated completion is fall of next year.

Precinct 2

The county celebrated their 200th road bond project October 19 with a ribbon cutting on County Road 200. There is still some paving and grading work going on, but the larger projects were completed on time. The original contracted price was $4,975,515, with change orders totaling $30,857.

Precinct 3

Curb and gutter work are being done on the intersection of State Highway 29 and D. B. Wood Road. The project is being managed by TxDOT and has a contracted price of $5,548,287. They anticipate it will be complete by Spring 2023.

“We cannot help that road enough,” Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles said.

Work continues on the Great Oaks Bridge at Brushy Creek. The project’s price was updated from $10,580,634 to $10,710,356. It should be complete next spring. Curb and gutters are going in, with some work on drainage as well. The county is also putting in a sidewalk.

Workers are putting down a prime coat on Country Road 111/ Westinghouse Road, which entails spreading a thin layer of asphalt over a compacted crushed stone base. Work could be complete by spring of 2024. There have been $6,951,085 in expenditures to date on the $21,739,825 adjusted contract price.

The Southwest Bypass Extension project is contracted for $4,288,543 and has no change orders to date. Ongoing work includes compacting subgrade and placing base.

Precinct 4

Southeast Loop Segment 1, Phase 1, covers the areas of Corridor E1 and Country Road 138 to Country Road 137. It is nearing completion and should be finished early next year. It has a contracted price of $11,526,789.

The University Boulevard Expansion Project is being completed in partnership with Round Rock, with a $11,104,890 budget. It is being paved and work could be finished by spring of next year.

The bridge slab is being poured for the Country Road 401 Reconstruction Project. The original contract amount for this project was $12,673,200 and it has total change orders of $427,715. The slab is being poured at night due to the heat. They are also placing a crushed stone base.

Construction on Kenney Fort Boulevard Segment 2 and 3 — Forest Creek Drive to State Highway 45 — is managed by the City of Round Rock and is slated to be finished in the winter of 2023. The city recently dug for the drainage and water line connection that will be placed there.

Country Road 404 Hutto Water Line Realignment was completed just slightly shy of its projected date earlier this year.

“That was a happy moment,” Mr. Daigh said. “We could finally terminate the existing pipe and tell Samsung we completed the job.”

The University Boulevard Widening Project running from Interstate Highway 35 to Sunrise Road is underway in partnership with the City of Round Rock. It is a 0.7 mile project that includes the design and reconstruction of University Boulivard to a sixlane, median divided arterial section including intersection improvements with dual turn lanes at Oakmont and University Oaks.

Work has begun on Future County Road — County Road 404 to Farm to Market Road 973. It has had $461,222 expenditures to date on the $11,289,929 original contracted amount.
