Eight local artist are winners at Art Hop XVII

For the 17th year, Georgetown Art Works has again hosted the annual juried Art Hop event with dozens of artworks on exhibit and offered for sale at the Georgetown Public Library and San Gabriel Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall until November 2.

Over 300 entries were submitted and 110 pieces were selected. Eight local artists won prizes. The Call for Art was open to Texas artists age 16 and over with cash and prizes totaling more than $3,000.

ArtHop XVII winners were selected in five categories, plus the Best of Show.

A 3-D white micaceous clay created by Seadrift’s artist Gladys Smedley titled “Show Me the Way” won Best of Show.

Cheryl Evans, Rae Andrews, Rebecca Bennett and Virginia Vaughan were jurors for the 2-D Abstract and Representational awards. They selected local artist Virginia Headley’s “Hometown” in third place and Tim Lowe as honorable mention for “Verdant Field” in the abstract category. Laura Wallis won first place with “Flight of Grace” in the representational category. Other winners were from Austin San Antonio, Copperas Cove and Buda.

Matt Donner, Greg Davis, Elizabeth Bonura and Kamil Rizvi juried 3-D Sculpture and Photography awards. They selected Susan Hoppenworth for first place with “Color Explosion” and Maria Magaldi with “Delicate” for honorable mention in the 3-D category. Rita Johnston won first place for “Time to Order” and her husband Ken Johnston won second place for “Flamingo at Rest” in the Photography/Digital category. Heather Miller-Camp won third place with “I Heart You.” Other winners were from Seadrift, Marble Falls and Austin.

Cam Huff, President of Georgetown Art Works, explained that Georgetown Art Works is “on the verge of transformation. 

“We began 2024 declaring our vision for pursuing anew our nonprofit mission; we will begin 2025 with a new name—Central Texas Arts Focus or CTAF,” he said. “The goal of becoming what can be summed up in the simplest of phrases: a partner in the arts. We know that in 2025 we will go further in seeking out community collaborators to help carry the Art Hop forward.”
