Family Barn offers play space for families

Family Barn, an indoor play area with a coffee shop, offers local families a break from the summer heat. Designed for children ages six months to 6 years, the play space provides a safe, engaging environment for children to explore while parents relax.

“It’s a win-win situation for parents and their kids,” said Artyom Korenskiy, who has operated Family Barn for the past year. His step-brother opened the Georgetown business at 1231 Leander Road three years ago.

Mr. Korenskiy said he designed the space with his own young son in mind. The play area includes a small bounce house, ball pit and themed rooms for imaginative play, such as a kitchen, fire station, grocery store, veterinarian office and farm. A separate area features toys for infants.

Mr. Korenskiy described Family Barn’s coffee shop area as cute and cozy. It’s a frequent destination for mom and dads groups, who often hang out by the coffee bar while their kids play. The menu includes bagel sandwiches, smoothies and child-friendly snacks. The facility is small enough that parents can supervise their children from most seating areas.

Originally from Kazakhstan, Mr. Korenskiy studied trade and economics in China before moving to Los Angeles, where he started a moving business and learned how to operate a business in the U.S.

“Every country is different, for sure,” he noted.

Mr. Korenskiy said the Georgetown community has been welcoming. He encourages feedback and wants Family Barn to be an inclusive space for families.

Family Barn accommodates up to 14 children at a time. Mr. Korenskiy said parents are encouraged to reserve spots in advance. Play sessions are two hours, with a mid-day break for cleaning. Shoes are not allowed in the play area, and socks are required.
