Georgetown High School students evacuated Wednesday morning due to bomb threat

Update: Georgetown Police Department confirmed that a voicemail bomb threat led to Georgetown High School being locked down Wednesday morning.

"Due to the nature of the threat, GISD made a decision to evacuate the school. Law enforcement along with GISD staff conducted searches of the school and the parking lot. Nothing suspicious was located," the department said in a statement. "The Georgetown Police Department is aware of unverified reports of multiple other schools in Texas dealing with similar threats today."

The Georgetown Police Department called an all-clear at Georgetown High School later in the afternoon. A full sweep of the campus was conducted, and no suspicious items were found.

At 9:55 a.m., GISD updated parents about reunification with students at a secure location. Specific information can be found on each parent's ParentSquare portal. Parents must have their I.D.s to check out their child. Students will be supervised and meals will be provided to students until they are picked up. Bus routes will also run like normal in the afternoon for students who cannot be picked up early.

All after-school activities will resume today at 4 p.m., and the district expects to return to normal operations for tomorrow, February. 19.

Georgetown High School is currently on lockdown due to a reported threat, according to Georgetown ISD and Georgetown Police.

Law enforcement said they were on scene assessing the situation as of 8:30 this morning, and GPD has asked residents to avoid the area until they provide an all clear.

In an 8:30 a.m. message to parents, GISD said, "GHS received a threat this morning and placed the campus on lockdown. Students who had already arrived have been evacuated and are being moved to a secure location."

The district asked parents whose children have not arrived at school yet to hold off on arriving to campus so law enforcement can investigate the threat.

"Any student driving themselves to school are being asked to return home," the district said in the email to parents. "[We will sent an update regarding reunification for students who were already dropped off. Please do not come to campus to pick them up. The remain in a secure location off campus."

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is available.
