Get to know Tecovas on the Square

This weekend, Tecovas celebrated the grand opening of their new store on the Square.

The Western wear store offers cowboy hats, boots and apparel for both men and women. The national brand was started by Paul Hedrick in 2015 and is headquartered in Austin.

Kim Heidt, the chief retail officer at Tecovas, spoke with the Sun about what the Georgetown store opening means for the brand and the Square.

Q: What is Tecovas' business philosophy and how would you describe their brand?

A: “Tecovas was started with the mission of being the most welcoming brand in all of Western; we believe the more boots on feet, the better. We look at the rich heritage of Western but through a modern lens. Everything we do is meant to honor the true Spirit of the West. We strive to help our customers lead a life that is genuine and trailblazing. Taking that one step further, we believe that when people live this life— they make the world a better place.

“We know shopping for Western goods can be intimidating. We want to remove that stigma and make everyone feel welcome regardless if you are seasoned or brand new to Western styling. Our products are beautifully crafted, well priced, and incredibly comfortable right out of the box. We have many first-time customers, and we strive to turn them into regulars.”

Q: What made Tecovas pick Georgetown to open their next location?

A: “We know what an honor it is to be in the Georgetown Square, as most of the businesses are local to the community. Being just down the road from our Austin headquarters, we have long looked at Georgetown as a place we want to be. We know we have a great customer base here and are so excited to get to know the community.”

Q: What aspects of the building/store make the Georgetown spot unique?

A:  “Our new location, being in the Sun building on the Square, is humbling as it is not only the oldest newspaper in the county but the oldest business in the county. [The Sun is] a true pioneer and certainly embodies the ‘Spirit of the West’ that we try to deliver daily.

“We offer complimentary drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic), boot shines and this year we launched an incredible personalization program with complimentary boot branding and boot embossing. We love seeing customers come in to get boots personalized for special occasions like weddings and anniversaries or even just to add initials, special dates, collegiate team spirit, and so much more. We believe that helping people make your product uniquely theirs is an honor.

“We want to bring back the feeling of shopping at your local store, and people being happy that came through the door – it’s a lost art. Trying on boots should be memorable, and we offer a lot of unique services at our retail locations to deliver on this.”

Q: Who is managing the Georgetown location?

A: “Matt Hilinski is our boots on the ground running the store. He grew up in Fort Worth, and he joined us in 2019. He said that the brand resonated with him and his childhood. He has run several of our stores in the five years he has been with the brand. We are looking forward to Matt and his team of roughly 10 employees getting to know the community.”
