David McDonald starts candidacy for county commissioner
Republican David McDonald — a current Leander City Council member and retired Austin police officer — has announced his candidacy for Williamson County Commissioner, Precinct 2, which is currently held by Cynthia Long.
The primary election is scheduled for March 3, 2026.
If elected as a county commissioner, he said plans to prioritize public safety, infrastructure, and transparent governance, with a focus on ensuring that every citizen feels safe, respected and heard.
He currently serves on the Leander City Council, Place 3 and holds leadership roles with the Capitol Area Council of Governments, the Clean Air Coalition, the Capitol Finance Subcommittee, and the board of Hope Alliance.
“For the past three years on the city council, I’ve worked closely with Leander residents to address everyday challenges — improving roads, strengthening public safety, and supporting local businesses,” he said. “I’m running for county commissioner because I believe Williamson County needs a hands-on leader with real-world experience and a deep commitment to service.”
Mr. McDonald is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with 31 years of public safety experience. His background includes extensive work in crisis response, infrastructure planning and regional coordination.
A resident of Williamson County for more than 28 years, Mr. McDonald has also been involved in civic life, supporting youth programs, volunteering at local events and advocating for practical solutions to long-term community needs. To learn more, residents can visit McDonaldForWilco.com.
