The Rotary Club of Georgetown celebrated its 60th birthday last Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown, which has hosted them since their charter.
“This is a special day,” Club President Cat Phelps said. “It is a day to celebrate the community we are blessed and humbled to serve in.”
More than 100 people attended the champagne brunch and heard about past presidents and Rotary members. The club currently has 130 members total.
Nell Benold — who attended the first ever Georgetown Rotary meeting — was given a $4,000 check Friday to support youth programs.
The club received a birthday gift from the Taylor Rotary Club president of an American flag that once flew over the Capitol.
The Georgetown Rotary programs that serve the community include the Field of Honor next month.
“We believe that when people work together… it can have a global effect,” said Ron Swain, a Rotary Club member.
The club is always open to new members and visitors. Prospective members can visit www.georgetownrotary.org to see upcoming events and opportunities.
