Hill Country Author series returns

The Hill Country Authors series organized by the Friends of the Georgetown Library will feature Lynda Rutledge, author of the bestselling novel West with Giraffes, on October 20.

The series is a long-running program of the Friends which brings published area authors to the library for presentations and questions from attendees. The event takes place at 2 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, in the Friends Room upstairs at the library. The library is located at 402 West Eighth Street.

Ms. Rutledge’s book is a historical novel inspired by a true story about a pair of hurricane-surviving giraffes who were trucked cross-country during the Great Depression. Ms. Rutledge has won awards and residencies from the Writers League of Texas, among many others. She lives with her husband and dog in Wimberley.

Proceeds from the event will go to supporting the Georgetown Public Library. Refreshments are included in the cost and will be served by Sweet Lemon Kitchen. Lark and Owl will also be selling copies of West With Giraffes, which the author can sign.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. They are available online at the Friends of the Library website www.folgeorgetown.org. Tickets may also be purchased at Second-Hand Prose, the used bookstore upstairs at the library. — Kate Thurmond
