Hundreds attend Sun City’s Fall Health Fair
Sun City’s Fall Health Fair, held October 14 inside the Social Center on Texas Drive, brought hundreds of residents together with dozens of resource providers in medical and related fields.
The semi-annual event in the ballroom and lobby included more than 70 vendors from a variety of specialists.
“I wanted to see what services are available in the areas I am not familiar with,” Sun City resident Laura Murphy said. “I found some things that I don’t need now but probably will in the future.”
Those who provided information from their tables and booths expressed satisfaction with turnout and interest generated during the five-hour event. Sun City also hosts a Health Fair in the spring.
“We’ve done this every year. We love coming here,” said Armando Garza, marketing coordinator for The Delaney at Georgetown senior-living community.
“We did this in May,” said Dianna Meier from Verena at Leander independent- senior living. “In May I had 28 customers that came into my community [from the Health Fair]. From that I had five rentals.”
John Stock, treasurer for A Gift of Time, spoke of how his nonprofit serves those with mild to moderate dementia and their caregivers.
“The day may come for any of us – and already has come for some of us – where you inherit the task of being a caregiver for an aging parent,” Mr. Stock said. “When that time comes, you need to have access to the wide range of resources in our community that you might not know about.”
Free seminars held during the Health Fair covered topics such as prostate cancer diagnosis and treatment, sleep apnea, macular degeneration, and the ins and outs of dental
implants.
