Old Town walk explores Georgetown's red poppy history

Roughly 15 people attended the history walk, which included a stop at the Hammerlun Leadership Center, 507 East Austin Avenue. The site was originally the location of Southwestern University and the old Georgetown High School before housing its current tenant, Ms. Cordes said.
A group of 15 people gathered Monday morning near Edwards Park in Georgetown for a poppy-themed history walk led by local historian Helen Cordes.
With some participants sporting red jackets and others displaying artificial flowers worn to remember United States veterans, the group learned about the historic significance red poppies have in Georgetown.
