Jail a done deal: Commissioners finalize $75M site purchase despite resident concerns

After an hour of public opposition from residents, Williamson County Commissioners Court finalized its contract to buy 248 acres off SE Inner Loop in South Georgetown for its future Jail and Justice Center.

Portions of Berry Creek Drive reopen after storm damage

Update: The portion of Berry Creek Drive that was closed due to storm damage reopened on Saturday, May 23, according to Kieth Hutchinson, city communications manager. He said the public works department installed a "precast concrete box culvert" that allowed them to make repairs.

The Sun launches 150th volume

The Williamson County Sun entered its 150th year of operations Tuesday, May 19, by publishing Issue 1 of Volume 150.Each volume of the Sun represents one year of news coverage. Williamson County Commissioners Court honored the Sun and its 150th volume during its May 19 meeting.

GISD students formally request Latin music at Prom

Latin music was sprinkled into the Georgetown High School prom playlist this weekend for the first time, which resulted in a larger number of the school’s hispanic students attending this year’s celebration. The addition was the result of an effort by the school’s Cultural Connections club.

Groundbreaking for bond-approved Georgetown YMCA estimated for FY27

The new YMCA facility on 6200 Williams Drive — which was approved by voters through the 2023 bond election — will be part of Georgetown’s 2027 Capital Improvement Project budget.

City of Georgetown staff will apply for up to $274 million in deferred and low-interest loans from the Texas Water Development Board to help fund a pipeline connecting Circleville to northern Georgetown as part of the Georgetown Regional Water Initiative.
