First measles case confirmed in Leander

The Williamson County and Cities Health District confirmed the first case of measles in a school-age child from Leander on May 22. This is the first reported case of measles in Williamson County this year. The health district said there is potential for exposure to others in the community.

Based on a multi-year forecast for Georgetown’s General Fund, Georgetown City Manager David Morgan said city expenses will exceed revenues over the next three fiscal years without “due diligence.” The General Fund is the city’s primary operating fund.

Despite the recent rain relief this month, the Brazos River Authority and Williamson County are bracing for a hot, dry summer. The Farmer’s Almanac predicted this year to be a “scorcher of a summer” with Texas having a “Hot and Dry” outlook and temperature increasing, “4 degrees above normal.”

Georgetown has also surpassed the 100,000 population threshold, with an estimated 101,344 based on the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2024 estimates, published Thursday, May 15.  Georgetown saw 4.76 percent growth from 2023 to 2024, when data was gathered, and has grown by 47.49 percent since 2020.
Georgetown is considering two options for trail segments leading from Berry Springs Park and Preserve to the future Westside Park. Proposal 1 shows the trail going around the neighborhood. The first phase of building would include the blue and green sections of the trail. Proposal 2 shows the trail running along the creek and through the Berry Creek neighborhood.
