County cities gain revenue, new sales tax report finds

The Texas Comptroller has released the updated sales tax data for June 2024.  For cities across the county, most saw an increase in revenues when compared to 2023’s numbers. Most notably Liberty Hill gained 81.77 percent more in profit, earning over $575,000.

Waste Management — which runs the county’s landfill — will increase typing fees by 6 percent, or $3, effective August 1. According to county documents, the previous price of $49.90 per ton will increase to $52.90 per ton.

Georgetown man gets life in prison for murder

Georgetown man Ricardo Quinones, 39, pled guilty on Thursday to the shooting death of his wife, Lindsey Whitman, 31. Mr. Quinones will serve life in prison, according to the district attorney’s office. He was originally indicted by a grand jury on the charge of capital murder.

Rowe Valley truss bridge connects to history

Situated over the San Gabriel River between Jonah and Circleville, just off State Highway 29, sits a now abandoned truss bridge that was originally built in 1909. Colloquially called the Rowe Valley Bridge, the Easley Bridge has three sections of crisscrossed iron that tower above the river.
