Keeping an eye on development, zoning bills

The final bills of the 2025 Texas Legislature are up for discussion with less than 25 days left in the session. Georgetown Mayor Josh Schroeder said this year the city has had a greater impact on legislative actions than in the past due to city staff ’s work with state representatives.

Air aware: County, state stride to reduce air pollution

Williamson County commissioners designated May 5-9 as Air Quality Awareness Week. Air quality in the Austin Metropolitan Statistical Area was classified as “moderate or worse” for nearly half of the days in 2024, according to the Air Quality Index.

County debuts refashioned mitigation plan

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved a revamped Hazard Mitigation Plan on April 29. Emergency Management Director Bruce Clements said this plan — updated every 10 years — includes a detailed risk assessment, an inventory of infrastructure and mitigation strategies.

Sheriff outlines department role during chamber luncheon

As summer approaches, a weekend well spent can include time at Georgetown’s pools, splash pads or natural watering holes.Places like Lake Georgetown and Blue Hole park, although fun, have rules that residents and visitors should familiarize themselves with before venturing out.

Two people shot in Round Rock dispute

Two individuals were found with gunshot wounds after Williamson County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call in the Round Rock area on May 1 at approximately 8 p.m. According to police, the shooting took place in the 2200 block of Chandler Creek Road, an unincorporated area within Round Rock.

4,000 homes, golf course head to Jarrell area

Nearly 4,000 homes will spring up in North Williamson County as part of the new Atlas Ranch Municipal Utility District in the coming years.Located outside of Jarrell’s extraterritorial jurisdiction on County Road 344, the MUD will be developed in eight phases over the next decade.
