American Legion Post 174 delivers donations for homeless veterans

American Legion Post 174 made deliveries of clothing for veterans experiencing homelessness on September 7 and 16 to Operation Stand Down Central Texas in Copperas Cove west of Fort Hood.

The Legion had previously donated used clothing to the Temple Veterans Health Administration, which has since stopped accepting them. Operation Stand Down Central Texas allows members to continue helping homeless and at-risk Veterans and their families.

“They have a wonderful professionally managedprogram,” Post 174 Commander BJ Mac-Millan said. “They have two stand downs annually. During the stand down all homeless veterans and their families receive hot meals, haircuts, medical screening, new clothes and access to other resources.”

The next stand down is 9 a.m.-3 p.m., October 22, at the Killeen Civic and Conference Center.

In addition, Operation Stand Down Central Texas helps from their headquarters all year, with computers available, shower facilities, information resources, clothing and personal items for veterans in need.

Ms. MacMillan said Post 174 plans to continue to support veterans experiencing homelessness through Operation Stand Down Central Texas.
