Carol Light guest speaker at WCAG meeting

The October 4 Williamson County Art Guild meeting presenter is local artist Carol Light, one of the founders of the guild. She is a 92-years-old artist and is still going strong with an upcoming solo show at the Georgetown Art Center in February 2023.
Born in Duncan, Oklahoma, her family moved to Austin in 1938 to run a greenhouse business. This contact with the land nurtured her artistic beginnings. Her early years were filled with marriage, two sons, and work in the applied arts as a designer. In 1969, the family moved to Walburg to a small hilltop farm which remains as her current home where painting began. In the early 1980s, she made a full-time commitment to study, learn and grow as a painter.
Social meet and greet begins at 6:15 p.m. followed by the meeting from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Georgetown Public Library, 402 West Eighth Street. Lynn Kessel is Program Chair for WCAG.
Art Hop XV
The annual statewide competition, Art Hop XV, is in full swing. Accepted artworks are on display in two locations: the Georgetown Art Center and both floors of the Georgetown Public Library. The competition categories include 2D Abstract, 2D Representational, 3D and Photo/ Digital.

Chalk Walk Festival
This year’s Round Rock Chalk Walk Festival is October 7 and 8. The fun will include artists, vendors, local and regional musicians, theatrical performances, food, drinks and a children’s area.
Chalk mural artists creating unique paintings are eligible to win cash prizes. Best of show receives $1,500, and other prizes are awarded Saturday evening. Other winning categories include first, second and third place mural winners, most creative, best representation of Round Rock, best animal, best figure, best copy of a famous masterpiece, best elementary school, best middle school and best high school.
The festival is held at Dell Diamond, 3400 East Palm Valley Drive in Round Rock, Friday from 2-9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information or sign up as an artist, email chalkwalk@roundrocktexas.gov or visit chalkwalk.org.
Art Trust
The Woodlands High School Art Trust is accepting applications for entry into the 2022 collection. Application deadline is October 9.
The Woodlands-based nonprofit supports The Student Art Trust Committee. The student committee is overseeing the application process for Texas juried artists’ work, to add to the student-selected and student-purchased professional art collection. They purchase final art selections for their permanent collectin.

Council chambers
“All That Jazz” artworks by Jean Mason are on display in the Round Rock City Council Chambers through January 2. Her paintings are inspired by the local music scene.
Her work has been featured on album covers, festival posters and t-shirts, product literature and magazine articles across the U.S. and abroad. Career highlights include a sellout solo exhibit in Chelsea/New York City and a feature story on her paintings for JAZZ COLOURS and Italian Jazz Magazine. She has worked as a teacher, an art therapist and a technical illustrator/writer. For two years, she served as the Curator of the Downtowner Gallery in Round Rock. In addition, she is a docent at the Blanton Museum of Art at the University of Texas.
Heart of America
A Capture the Heart of America photo contest sponsored by Silos & SmokeStacks is open through October. Cash prizes will be awarded to contest categories including various Iowa sites and the state’s farm culture along with American Agriculture and Faces of American Agriculture.
