A desire to help others in community’s DNA

My family was blessed with the opportunity to attend Golden Rule’s benefit dinner in support of their employee, Mary, who is battling breast cancer. It was another great reminder of Georgetown’s compassionate community.

It also made me think of this quote from FredRogers,“WhenIwasaboyandIwould see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ ” In a time where we frequently see things that scare us in the world, this event, and the extraordinary efforts of so many, reminded me of what makes Georgetown so special. Inherent in our community DNA is the genuine desire to help others. May we never lose that here.

To Brad, Cody, Tommy, Michael and the entire Golden Rule team that gave so selflessly in support of their friend, I say thank you. Thank you for keeping care and concern for others alive in Georgetown. And to Mary, please know you have the prayers and support of an entire community behind you on your journey.
