Border crisis a sign of government failure
Letters
Unless you are someone who refuses to acknowledge the obvious, like the current Biden administration leadership team, our southern border is in fact open and not under control.
Illegal immigrants are coming from most every country in the world and either swimming or walking across our border at points not designated as entry points. Very few are being returned to their country of origin and the vast majority are single males. And surely just declaring you want asylum can’t be a criterion for being allowed to stay. The estimated 50,000 crossing monthly as known “gotaways” are certainly not asking for permission to enter.
I understand why many of the billions of residents of planet earth would desire to reside in the U.S.A. This current horde of illegal immigrants have virtually been invited to come by our current president. However, no nation with a generous welfare system, like ours, can survive with open borders. “Legal” immigrants who came in the distant past did so without any guarantees other than an opportunity to succeed if they worked hard. These “illegal” immigrants coming today do so by breaking our entry laws and then finding no consequences and even welfare benefits that they do not deserve. Someone has suggested that when you see processes in place that are obviously illogical you are living in a country created by geniuses but run by idiots.
Do we need to increase our population in the U.S.A. by “legal” immigration? Possibly, but shouldn’t we the people through elected representatives get a voice regarding “how many” and “which” of the billions of earth’s residents get that opportunity? These are valid questions that should be debated with transparency.
As we are told many times over, “elections have consequences.” This current disaster at the border is clear evidence of this inviolate truth.
