Norfleet, Manhunter Is Again On The Move – “I will never be satisfied until the gates of a penitentiary clang behind another member of that gang, and I will never quit my efforts to obtain that result as long as a spark of the life remains in my body.”

Thus spoke J. Frank Norfleet, Hale-Center ranchman, who has tracked four members of an alleged swindling ring to the four corners of the United States: sprung a trap in Denver in the largest gang of swindlers ever recorded in the history of that city and he was marching toward another member of the band which defrauded him….Norfleet had been on a visit to his father and mother in Cooke county and after a short stop at his ranch, he will again resume his search for the fifth member of the gang.

“My motives are strictly selfish, but I believe in upholding the law and the creed of the West,” he explained in regard to his extensive campaign against the swindlers, on his own expense. * Thirty years ago (1892) last September 1 began the study of medicine….four years later I began the practice of my profession.

Ten years ago I went to Chicago, New York and New Orleans and attended lectures where only diseases of the eye, ear, nose and throat are taught.

There are over 50 child diseases and conditions of the eye which a specialist must know if he would treat special diseases successfully.

Everycaseof “soreeyes”isnot“treacherous”.. granulated lids or “weak eyes.” FEW CHILDREN NEED GLASSES. ____EYES ARE DUE TO IMPROPERLY FITTED GLASSES THAN ANYTHING ELSE. Do you prefer cheap glasses or do you want your eyes properly examined and correctly fitted by one who knows the eyes and its diseases? Dr. Roberts, Office over Brady’s Confectionary * New wife of Kaiser will have title of “queen.” Rather an empty title, in this case, a queen without a throne is very much like a gavel without a beat.

The war against inflation is on. Over the weekend, the Federal Reserve used every tool at its disposal to curtail the nation’s money supply. It raised the discount rate from 11 to 12 percent, and sharply hoisted member banks’ reserve requirements. Georgetown, as well as every other town in America, will be feeling the effects.

But to what extent will Georgetown be affected? In the national picture, credit is drying up drastically, new house construction is nosediving, and a sizable number of small and large businesses are already self-destructing. Back East, some large banks and savings and loans have found themselves over-extended in loans without the cash reserves to back them up, and some of these institutions are afraid of folding. * Passing Glance by Don Scarbrough A couple of weeks ago I was planning the dam dedication and asked the GHS band director if his group could play “Battle Hymn of the Republic.” He looked mildly surprised at the question. “My kids can play anything!” he told me firmly and I believed him. They did a great job at the dedication, as did Kenny Sheppard’s Southwestern University Chorale. Music adds much to any such occasion, especially good music.” * The Georgetown Women’s Club October guest of honor was GHS senior Tracy Arnold. * Cotton crop yields record harvest * Ragweed to blame for hay fever outbreak * Meals on Wheels program provided by seven churches – First United Methodist, St. John’s Methodist, First Presbyterian, First Baptist, Christ Lutheran, St. Peter’s Lutheran and St. Helen’s Catholic * GHS Homecoming Royalty – Queen Karen Graham with her court – Sheila Woerner, Penny Pierce, Carole Peschal and Jan Fielder * At the Homecoming Parade, winners of the float contest were first, Blue Wings; second, Georgettes; third, Band * The San Gabriel Women’s Club program was a presentation by Coach Jeff Henry, sponsor of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, with students Penny Pierce and Laura Masuccio.
