Karen Leigh Phillips
OnMonday,October 17, 2022, Karen Leigh Phillips was called to heaven at the age of 77. She is survived by her loving husband Richard Charles Phillips, her two children, Richard James Phillips and Stacy Zellner, her sister, Melanie Myers, brother, Kevin Davis and her six grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Mikayla, Kaitlyn, Collette, and Dylan.
Born in Coeburn, Virginia on August 11, 1947, Karen was the daughter of Ruth and Carl Davis, and sister to Melanie, and her two brothers, Kevin, and Wayne. Her family moved to Pacific Grove, California, and later Santa Clara where she attended Wilcox High School and was proud to serve on the homecoming court.
In June of 1966, Karen worked as a secretary in Sunnyvale, California, where she met Richard, her future husband. Karen and Rich married on August 6, 1967, five days before her 20th birthday. She was a devoted mother to her son, Richard and daughter, Stacy, whom she loved, supported, defended, and celebrated throughout her life.
Karen and Rich moved to Austin in 1997, soon after the birth of their first grandchild. She would later be blessed with five additional grandchildren, and she cherished her role as Grammie, above all else.
Karen was filled with the holiday spirit and loved decorating for all the holidays but especially Independence Day, Halloween, and Christmas. Karen was a proud Texan and was a true patriot who loved her country.
A breast cancer survivor, Karen was a fighter who fought to protect her loved ones and her values. If Karen was your friend, you could count yourself lucky, as she would embrace and support you with loyalty and love.
Karen loved peacocks and swans and marveled at the beauty of the ocean, the clouds above and the vibrant sunsets over the Texas Hill Country. She was happy both on a crowded dance floor or curled up on the couch with slippers and a cup of coffee.
Karen’s life was defined by those she loved, and she never surrendered to any challenge. She believed that miracles were possible, and that fairy tales were real, if you were willing to make a wish and follow it up, perhaps, with a pinch of glitter.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Ramsey Funeral Home in Georgetown, followed by a reception at 2 p.m. She will be laid to rest at the IOOF Cemetery at 1117 East Seventh Street, Georgetown, Texas.
