VFW receives new flag collection box
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8587 in Georgetown acquired a new U.S. flag collection box to replace a badly weather- worn box that had served the Post for several years.
Georgetown residents can drop off tattered or badly worn out U.S. flags at the VFW, located at 1000 North College Street. The new collection box is located outside the building and is accessible at all times.
The U.S. Flag Code states that when a flag “is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display,” it should be destroyed in a dignified way. Boys Scout Troop 405 has chartered with VFW Post 8587, while Boys Scouts Troop 151 has charted with American Legion Post 174 to properly retire U.S. flags, among other joint activities. — Frank Espinosa, Jr.
