Major Laurence Eugene (“Gene”) Linden

Major Laurence Eugene (“Gene”) Linden, age 87, passed away at Ascension Seton Williamson Hospital in Round Rock on Thursday, October 27, 2022.

Gene was born in Austin on September 22,1935, as the youngest child of Frank O. Linden, Jr. and Iris Erma (Spencer) Linden. He was a graduate of Austin High School (1953), Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science (1954), The University of Texas (1957) and Babson College (1968).

At his core, Gene was a servant leader who valued people for who they were, not for what they could give. As a young officer in the U.S. Army, he deployed to Germany as part of the Berlin Brigade during the Cold War and served as a company commander during the Vietnam War. After earning his MBA from Babson College, he served in Korea and again in Germany before taking his final assignment in Fort Hood. Throughout his twenty year military career, he achieved the rank of Major and earned several honors including; Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Commendation Medal, Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars.

Upon his retirement from military service, Gene embraced his love of accounting becoming a member of the Exchange Club and serving as the Tax Assessor/Collector for the City of Killeen. During this time he helped his loving wife (Robbie) and her sister (Melanie) launch their entrepreneurial adventure as owners of The Video Shop in Georgetown. Retiring a second time, Gene launched his third and final venture opening his own accounting business.

Gene was humble, kind, sincere and always had a smile on his face. As an empathic leader, he exemplified the tenants of stewardship and community. He was a devoted husband, loving father and loyal friend. He took immense pride in his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an avid Texas history buff who also had an interest in military strategy. As the family historian, he tirelessly researched records to write the stories that brought to life his family’s immigration to the U.S. from Sweden.

Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Robbie Nell (Jaquysh) Linden who was, as he said, “the love of my life.” He is also preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Frank Linden. He is survived by his brother, Richard Linden, his children, Laurence Linden, Jr. (Laurie), Greg Linden (Lori), Jennifer Muller (George), his grandchildren, Devin Muller (Samm Swagler), Erin Peters (Nick), Conor Muller and great-grandchildren Declan Peters, Lincoln Peters and Riley Peters. In addition, Gene is survived by several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren who love him dearly.

A visitation for Laurence will be held Thursday, November 3, 2022, from 9 - 10 a.m. at Cross & Crown Lutheran Church, 3800 Shell Road, Georgetown, Texas, 78628. A funeral service will follow, beginning at 10 a.m., with a light reception from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.. The burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 11463 TX-195, Killeen, Texas, 76542, where full military honors will be rendered.
