Holidays are tough time for shelter
The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter has requested help from the community as it contends with a critical lack of space for animals this holiday season.
The shelter last week was caring for 198 dogs — a number they report is unsustainable — and received more than 10 animals a day for six days. The shelter is asking the community to help by adopting or fostering to make space so the shelter can continue caring for the animals they have. Help can also be given through volunteering or donating.
Fostering can be done through two programs. The standard fostering program is a two-week foster for space. There is also the “Home For The Holidays” foster program that allows a person to foster a medium- to-large adult dog through the holiday season. Previews of adoptable animals and more details about our fostering programs can be found at wilcopets.org.
Adoptions are critically needed. Adoptions of medium-to-large adult dogs and adult cats are $11. Adoption appointments can be scheduled by emailing adoption@wilco.org.
