GISD names Jack Frost Citizens for November

Georgetown ISD trustees November 14 recognized three high school seniors as Jack Frost Citizens of the Month.

The award is given monthly to outstanding students who demonstrate service, leadership and scholarship. It is named after former GISD superintendent Jack Frost in honor of his leadership and for encouraging each student to become the best they can be.

East View High School

Ainsley Simmang is a former member of the East View High School girls basketball team, former president and current vice president of FCCLA Culinary Arts and vice president of Mu Alpha Theta. Outside of school, she is a four-year member and current president of Venturing Boy Scouts of America, as well as an active member of the Sea Scouts, a Boy Scouts program that promotes citizenship through water activities. An accomplishment Ainsley is proud of is completing a 12-day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch in 2021. She backpacked 65 miles and climbed to the summit of the Tooth of Time, a 9,000-foot feature in New

Mexico. After graduation, Ainsley plans to spend the summer working at the Philmont Scout Ranch, then pursue a bachelor’s degree in forestry or forest resources. Ainsley’s parents are Dana and Peter Simmang.

Jackson Zane is a member of the EVHS varsity football team, track team and powerlifting team. He is president of Mu Alpha Theta and treasurer of the National Honor Society. Jackson also is a member of the EVHS Hope Squad and he spent two summers as a member of the Texas State Summer Math Camp. Outside of school, he has been a member of Boy Scouts, volunteers at middle school sporting events and partners with his sister to help improve and maintain historical sites around Georgetown’s Square. He also tutors younger students in math. A proud accomplishment is receiving the Dr. Bill Farney Grit award at the “gold” level, a recognition given to an athlete in three separate varsity sports as a junior. After graduation, he plans to pursue a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering to prepare for a career in neurotechnology research. Jackson’s dream is to help develop better artificial limbs to support those who need them. His parents are Ruth and Jeffrey Zane.

Georgetown High School

Ellie Quiroz is a member of the Lady Eagles volleyball team where she has received the Eagle Fight award, honorable mention and academic all-district. She is also a member and media director of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and a volunteer at the Locker. Outside of school, Ellie organizes service projects for cancer patients creating care packages and handmade blankets through the Dig Pink Foundation. The packages and blankets are hand-delivered to cancer patients in Georgetown and to Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center. An accomplishment Ellie is most proud of is her ability to be a successful student-athlete while also dedicating time to help her community After graduation, she plans to pursue a college degree in elementary education with the goal to become a fourth-grade teacher. Ellie’s parents are Shari and Steven Quiroz.
