Support local shops on Small Business Saturday

The City of Georgetown is encouraging residents to shop local this holiday season during Small Business Saturday, which takes place November 26.

“Holiday shoppers and visitors are encouraged to celebrate the season and support a small business by shopping at locally owned businesses,” a city press release stated. “Participating retailers and restaurants will have specials and discounts available.”

A kick-off event will take place from 10 a.m.-noon at the Visitors Center, 103 West Seventh Street. Attending shoppers will receive a free canvas tote bag and refreshments while supplies last.

The city’s annual Small Business Saturday is sponsored by the Georgetown Main Street Program, the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and the Downtown Georgetown Association.

Introvert Shopping Day at Lark & Owl

Lark & Owl Booksellers is attempting to curb the Black Friday chaos with an Introvert Shopping Day. Along with laid back holiday shopping, the store will also unveil an origami art installation, which will remain in the store until the end of the year.

Friday, November 25, also marks the start of holiday hours, which include extended hours at 10 a.m.-8 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

“Ditch the big box stores, don your coziest pajamas or loungewear and come relax in our inviting bookstore and bistro,” a store press release reads.

Throughout the day, bookstore staff will play soothing music and encourage whispering inside the store.

“The Butterfly Project,” a custom art piece crafted by Georgetown resident Donna Looper and Ben, her eight year old son, will also be unveiled that day. Made from 248 origami butterflies, the piece represents the Georgetown residents who lost their lives to Covid-19.

The artists will be at the bookstore from 5-7 p.m. Friday, November 25, to chat with customers.
