Friday is your last chance to file for May Georgetown, GISD elections
Residents have until Friday, February 17, to file to run in the May Georgetown City Council or Georgetown ISD board of trustees election.
For the city, the position of mayor and council members for Districts 2 and 6 will be on the ballot. Incumbents for each seat — Shawn Hood for District 2, Jake French for District 6 and Mayor Josh Schroeder — have filed so far.
In Georgetown ISD, Places 4 and 5 will be on the ballot. Two candidates have filed for Place 4 in the May 6 Georgetown ISD board election — incumbent Stephanie Blanck and former trustee Marcos Gonzalez.
Ms. Blanck, a retired GISD administrator, has served on the GISD board since 2019. Mr. Gonzalez served from 2018-21.
So far, Anthony Blankenship is the only candidate running for Place 5.
How to file
Application documents for city candidates are available online at https://government.georgetown.org/elections/. All documents must be submitted to City Secretary Robyn Densmore either in-person, 808 South Martin Luther King Jr. Street, or via mail, with envelopes addressed to the same location. Email applications are also accepted at cs@georgetown.org. Those filing must be at least 21 years old on the first day of the term.
For city council elections, candidates must live in Georgetown and their corresponding council district for at least one year preceding the election.
To qualify as a candidate in the school district elections, a person must be a resident of the district and otherwise qualified to vote in the election in which he or she is a candidate. Information about requesting a trustee candidate packet is available on the GISD website at www.georgetownisd.org/board. School board trustee candidates need to file their paperwork directly with the school district.
