Kay Danills McKee of Georgetown, Texas passed away peacefully on January 16, 2024, at the age of 84. She was born on March 11, 1939, in Goodland, Kansas, where she grew up on her father’s farm, and attended school in Los Angeles, California with her Auntie Kay and Uncle John.
She graduated from Rosemead High School and Business School in the Los Angeles area. Kay worked for many years but considers her career highlights to be serving as an elementary school secretary and as the Administrative Director for the Graduate School of Banking at Southern Methodist University for 18 years.
Kay was a fun-loving person who was actively involved in her community and church throughout her life. She organized many social groups and enjoyed traveling, playing poker and games, and spending time with her friends and family. Whether serving home-cooked meals to her friends and neighbors at her house, or enjoying happy hour surrounded by a crowd of friends, Kay’s beautiful smile and vivacious laugh filled the room and spread joy to everyone. Kay loved her family and friends deeply. “Think where man’s glory most begins and ends and say my glory was I had such friends.” – W.B. Yeats.
She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 58 years, Kenneth Rae McKee, and her father, Edward Danills, her mothers Loretta Ahrens and Madelyn Danills, her Aunt Kay Danills Hart, and her Uncle John Hart.
She is survived by Tracee McKee Cummins, Lori McKee Walker (and Richard Graham Walker); her four grandchildren, Annie Louise Dawson (and Brent Dawson), Samuel McKee Cummins (and Chandler Roberts Cummins), Claren Kay Walker, and Natalie Rae Walker. Kay also welcomed her first great-granddaughter in 2022, Vivian Louise Dawson, and was looking forward to the arrival of her second great-granddaughter, Lisbeth Kay Cummins, in April 2024. Her sisters and brothers-in-law who reside in Kansas. Jane and Brady Philbrick, Marlene and Lonnie Whiteker, and Victoria and Richard Halblieb.
The family would like to thank her team at Grand Living of Georgetown and Blue Water for the care and compassion they showed her in her final days.
Interment will precede the celebration of life at Central Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery at 11 a.m. at 11463 Fort Hood Street, Killeen, Texas. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life at The Worship Place at 811 Sun City Boulevard, Georgetown, Texas 78633 on Friday, February 2, 2024, at 2 p.m. The family wants to invite you to celebrate Kay’s life following the service at a reception at Grand Living from 3:30-5 p.m., Grand Living Forum Room, 1330 West University in Georgetown, Texas. Join the family at any of these opportunities.
