5th Annual Texas Photography Festival

March 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Fifth Annual Texas Photography Festival is on Saturday, March 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the Square in Georgetown. The one-day festival will be jam-packed with Photo Walks, educational classes, and the showcase work of the ​Featured Photographers. 

 

Central Texas Philharmonic Concert

March 17, 4 p.m.

Join Cuban-born composer and pianist extraordinaire, Aldo López-Gavilán for Latin Rhythms. On Sunday, March 17, at 4 p.m. Aldo will perform some of his own compositions, as well as those of Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue on its 100th birthday. Aldo is a globally acclaimed musician known for his flair and extraordinary keyboard skill. He will also share comments about current life in Cuba. Faith Senior Ministries

March 20, 1:30-3 p.m.

 

Sponsored by Faith Senior Ministries, Faith Lutheran Church will host a discussion about advance care planning, including end-of-life medical needs and legal documents. Hospice Austin will be the guest speaker for the event,  which is open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. PFLAG Georgetown Support Group Meeting

March 21, 7:30 p.m.

PFLAG Georgetown is a chapter of PFLAG, the country's first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families. The organization holds a monthly support group for parents and allies of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as for members of that community. Preserving the Harvest-Canning Series: Water Bath Canning

March 21, 1-5 p.m.

Guest Speaker Beverly Hodges, Bell County FCH Agent, will guide participants in step-by-step instruction through the water bath canning process of fruit jams. Be ready to help prepare the fruit, pack your jar that we provide and take home a tasty treat to share. Georgetown Quilt Show

March 22-23, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

The theme for this year’s Georgetown Quilt Show quilt show will be “Star Struck.” The event will feature a silent auction, a variety of vendors, a raffle quilt, tea room and scissor sharpening. The event is sponsored by Handcrafts Unlimited. The Georgetown Quilt Show will meet at the Community Center in San Gabriel Park, admission is $8.

 

“Beneath the Persimmon Tree: Poetry and Process”

March 22 to April 28

The Georgetown Art Center will have “Beneath the Persimmon Tree: Poetry and Process” by Kelly Wagner Steinke on exhibition. The exhibit consists of several ongoing works, as well as newly completed works. These pieces reveal visual and conceptual layers that collectively create a conversation between us and the natural world. The exhibit will run from March 22 – April 28 at the Georgetown Art Center and is free to attend. There will be an Opening Reception on March 23 from 4-6 p.m. and the GAC will host an Artist Talk on Sunday March 24 at 2p.m.

 

Disaster!

March 22 – April 21

The Georgetown Palace Theatre presents Disaster! Set on a floating casino and discotheque in 1979 with A-list celebrities, a night of boogie fever quickly changes to panic as the ship succumbs to multiple disasters, such as earthquakes, tidal waves and infernos. Faith In Action Portraits of Independence Gala

March 23, 6 p.m.

Nonprofit Faith In Action will host their inaugural Portraits of Independence gala March 23 at 6 p.m. a Southwestern University. The event promises heartwarming stories, artistic displays and conversation amongst those committed to keeping older adults independent. A live auction will also help fundraise for the organization. Lifelong Learning GTX Eclipse Presentation

March 23, 2 p.m.

Join Lifelong Learning GTX, formerly Senior University, and the Georgetown Public Library in learning about the eclipse Central Texas will soon see in the library’s Hewitt Room. Dr. Clark Wernecke will give a presentation about the solar eclipse, and he will use his background in anthropology and archaeology to discuss how cultures around the world have responded to solar eclipses. This program is free and open to the public. 

 

Palm Sunday Dinner

March 24

The Florence United Methodist Church will host a BBQ chicken dinner at noon following their 10 a.m. church service. BBQ plates will be prepared by the Holy Smokers and there will be a churchwide bake sale as well. Meal tickets are $12 and can be purchased through Venmo at Florence-UMC or by phone call at 254-793-2535. Deadline to order tickets is March 19.

 

Grief support groups offered in Georgetown

April 4, 1-3 p.m.

GriefShare is a special weekly seminar and support group designed to help you rebuild your life after losing a loved one. The group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and want to help you through the difficult days you are experiencing.  Total Eclipse Viewing Party at Southwestern University

April 8, 11a.m. to 3p.m.

Southwestern University is hosting a Total Eclipse Viewing Party at their scenic academic mall. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 8. Georgetown is one of the few locations in the country positioned directly in the path of eclipse totality. This means citizens will have the chance to witness daytime turn to night as the moon completely covers the sun. The next eclipse is not expected for another 20 years. Associate Professor of Physics Mark Bottorff will be on site with 10 telescopes to ensure an optimal viewing experience. Eclipse glasses will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

 

Market Days

April 13, 9 a.m to 4 p.m. 

Georgetown’s Market Days take place on the Square every second Saturday of the month from March through November. The event includes local vendors, live music, food and drinks, beginning at 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. It is organized by the Downtown Georgetown Association. 

 

Guitar Performance By Richard Smith

April 14, 4 p.m.

On Sunday, April 14, at 4 p.m. fingerstyle guitarist, Richard Smith, will return for an intimate performance at the Grace Heritage center in downtown Georgetown. Richard hails from England but now lives in Nashville. He has performed for the Wilco Guitar society twice with raving reviews and this is the first time he is playing at the small venue of the Heritage Center.
