John Edward Sundstedt

John Edward Sundstedt

John Edward Sundstedt, 77, departed this world on September 10, 2024, at his home in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand. The eldest of four boys, he was born on June 8, 1947, in Rockford, Illinois, to James and Shirley (Pillsbury) Sundstedt. John began working on the yard crew with Woodward in Rockford in 1961 and was a 1965 graduate of Guilford High School. He attended Drake University and worked at Woodward during the summers before graduating with a degree in finance.

John and his first wife Ardie (Johnson) moved to Fort Collins, Colorado, in 1970 where they raised two children, Jeff and Dawn.

At Woodward, John held various positions in accounting until he had the opportunity to serve as Plant Manager in Sydney, Australia for five years. He was the Plant Manager in Tomisato, Japan, and also responsible for all operations in the Asia Pacific region for the final seven years of his 36-year career. In 2004, he married June and moved to Sun City in Georgetown, Texas.

John was an avid tennis player, golfer, world traveler and music lover. He told everyone he met that the Rolling Stones are the greatest band that ever lived. He unselfishly oversaw the care of his brother Peter in Peter’s final years. Throughout his life, John forged many lasting friendships and found tranquility in the Colorado mountains. He continued to play golf and tennis in Sun City until he moved to Thailand in February of 2024.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father, and brothers Tom and Peter. He is survived by his wife June; son Jeff (Michele) Sundstedt, of Round Rock, Texas; daughter Dawn (Todd) Leach of Apopka, Florida; granddaughter Morgan Sundstedt; grandson Charlie Leach; brother Mark (Jenny) Sundstedt of Fort Collins, Colorado; nephews Nathan and David Sundstedt, and many cousins.

He will be laid to rest in a traditional Buddhist ceremony in Thailand. A private memorial will be held at a later date here in the US for the family.
