Richard (Dick) Clyde Lindsey, 88 years, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, in Rogers, Arkansas. He was born on December 28, 1935, in Columbus, Kansas to parents Lester and Theo Lindsey.

Dick is survived by his son Richard Curtis Lindsey, Daughter Richelle Mattingly, grandsons Jubal Lindsey and wife Ambrosia , Sam Lindsey and wife Erica, John Mattingly, granddaughter Christina Marie Lindsey and great grandson Elias Margan, Graham Lindsey, Michael Lindsey, Beau Lindsey, and numerous other family members.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Fred, Ralph, Hubert, wife, Luanne Lindsey, daughter Sherlyn Lindsey, niece Anne Coleman, and great-grandson Brooks Lindsey.

Dick graduated from Lawton High School in Lawton, Oklahoma in 1954. His fondness of music inspired him to join musical programs as a baritone in both high school and college. Dick also joined the ROTC, which acted as the catalyst for his long career in the military.

During the summer of 1955 he met his future wife, Luanne, while attending Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. Dick and Luanne’s relationship continued to blossom and in April 1957 they were married in Joplin, Missouri.

He graduated from Pittsburg State University in 1958 with a bachelor’s in Business and Management. Upon graduating, Dick received a commission in the U.S. Army and on May 29, 1958, immediately received active duty orders to report to Fort Knox, Kentucky. Luanne packed up the family and made their first of many moves during a 24+ year career.

Dick’s military career was notable, serving in Korea, two tours in Vietnam, three years in Germany at the height of the Cold War before being stationed in Hawaii under CINCPAC then finally in Arizona as Assistant Chief of Security and Intelligence with the U.S. Army Communications Command. After 24 years, two months and two days of service time, Dick retired on July 31, 1982.

After Retiring, Dick and family moved to the Austin, Texas, area where he started breeding Labrador Retrievers; co-owning and operating Appyland Labrador Kennels and Appyland Dog Obedience School. He subsequently co-founded the Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue organization, The Heart of Texas Labrador Retriever Club and was the National Lab Rescue Coordinator leading the organization for several years.

In 2002 the Lindsey family relocated to Rogers, Arkansas, where Dick chose love over ambition, giving up a promising military career, on track to be promoted to the rank of General in order to support his beloved wife, Luanne. This selfless decision reflected his unwavering commitment to her and their family.

Richard will be remembered with a sharp memory and tight lipped, throughout his military service and in various communities he served.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 18, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Benton County Funeral Home, 306 North Fourth, Rogers. Interment with full military honors in the National Cemetery, Fayetteville. Online condolences to
