Mary Lane grew up in University Park, Dallas attending Highland Park Schools and SMU. Her personal interests included drama (acting) and choral singing in high school, church and SMU. While in high school, HPUMC Music Director Dr. Whittlesee sent her to a choral college in Princeton, New Jersey, to further hone her melodic soprano voice.

Mary Lane and Hugh were wed in Cox Chapel at HPUMC in June of 1957.

Her Grandfather and Uncle were both affiliated ministers at HPUMC and she was a lifetime member.

After several years in the Navy, Hugh and Mary Lane returned to Dallas to begin a family.  For the next 25 years she worked in the home as Mom to their three children.

After they retired from Banking in 1996, they moved to Sun City, Texas, in Georgetown.

She returned to her involvement in acting and directing in the Sun City Drama Club and Chorus, continuing to perform, for over 20 years.

A highlight was being asked to sing at Carnegie Hall with the Southwestern College Choir in 2019.

Among her talents in voice and drama, she was also an avid cross stitcher. She studied many types of needlework and produced beautiful works of art for friends and family.

During their 25 years in Sun City, ML and Hugh traveled extensively around the US, and abroad. They had many wonderful adventures.

Her memorial service will be at Cox Chapel, Highland Park United Methodist Church in Dallas, on December 7, 2024, 10 a.m. Reception to follow. Interment will be in the Columbarium at the church.
