Gordon Leroy Peterson passed away at the age of 82 on December 12, 2024, at Belmont Village Senior Living, Dallas, Texas, from the illness of Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).

Gordon was born on October 5, 1942, in Georgetown, Texas, to John Leroy Peterson and Ruby Peterson.  He was a graduate of Georgetown High School where he was a proud “Eagle” participating in football and track. Later in life, Gordon competed in senior track meets around the state.

Gordon graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, in 1965 and afterwards served several tours of duty in Vietnam.  For his service in Vietnam Gordon was awarded the Bronze Star medal with combat “V” along with numerous campaign decorations. After Gordon’s in-country Vietnam tour he served as an Admiral’s Aide at Supreme Head quarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) in Belgium. Following this he reentered civilian life.  Gordon earned a  M.A. from Boston University and a PhD from the London School of Economics.

Returning to Texas, Gordon was involved in many cattle interests across the state.  He was employed as a commodity broker with Anspacher and Associates in Dallas. After this employment in 1987 Gordon founded International Research and Asset Management a Dallas Based investment advisory firm and actively involved until his retirement for health concerns and move to Belmont Village.

Gordan had a deep appreciation for the arts and was a regular member or the Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Opera, Dallas Pops, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Dallas Theater Center, Kimball Art Museum and the Wylie Theater Center. He was an active member of the Cosmos Club in Washington D.C., the LSE Alumni Association, and the USNA Alumni Association North Texas Chapter. Gordon was also an avid world traveler and enjoyed many adventures.

Left to mourn his passing are brother Brian Peterson and wife, Peggy, of Georgetown, Texas, niece, Amanda Sauls and husband, Ryan, Children Ember and Xander of Georgetown, Texas, niece Tanya Edwards, and husband, Marcus, children Millye, Kendal and Colton of Salado, Texas and niece, Samantha Peterson, and partner Tamika Phillips of Austin, Texas, also special friend and companion Mollie Crow of Dallas, Texas. Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Sara W. Peterson of Dallas, Texas, formerly of Kent, England.
