INTRODUCTION TO ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE

February 21, 10:30 a.m.

Lifelong Learners GTX and the Georgetown Neuroscience Foundation present an introduction to the current status of Alzheimer's research: the key causes of the disease; the critical importance of early diagnosis; research to find these early diagnosis tools; and new therapies available including immunotherapy and how these therapies work. Presenter is Dr. Michael Douglas, executive director of the GNF. The presentation takes place at San Gabriel Presbyterian Church, 5404 Williams Drive. Attendance is free. No advance registration needed. 

CAR AND VINTAGE PLANE SHOW

February 22, 8:30 a.m. 

Peruse historic gadgets and vehicles at the annual Stephanie Nichols’ Car & Vintage Plane Show. The show features cars and planes on display to view at the Georgetown Airport, 500 Terminal Drive.The show is free to attend, but donations benefit the Epilepsy Foundation.

Williamson County Guitar Society meet and greet

The Wilco Guitar Society is having a social event for those interested in guitar, whether it’s playing, listening or simply appreciating the instrument. There will be a 30 minute performance by Gabriela Bravo and Kevin Taylor. Refreshments will be served. The event will be held at the Georgetown Public Library, room 211.

Wine, Women Chocolate and Giving

Night at the Museum

February 22, 6-9 p.m.

Olive Brothers Buccaneer Crew has buried their treasure in the museum. Come explore the history of pirates where the museum comes to life and we need your help to solve the pirate mystery. At 6 p.m. the museum exhibits will wake up for the night and lead families in fun crafts and activities throughout the museum.Tickets are $12 per adult ($10 for museum members) and $8 per child ($5 for members). BiG’s 12th Annual Art Auction

Fat Tuesday Game Fundraiser

February 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The San Gabriel Woman’s Club is holding their 17th annual Fat Tuesday Fundraiser at the Georgetown Community Center to benefit local charities and scholarships to Georgetown high school students. On Tuesday, February 25, starting at 10 a.m. there will be games, raffles and door prizes for attendees. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tickets for the entire event are $30 for games and lunch, while lunch-only tickets are offered for $12. Salado Museum Celebrates Texas Independence Day 

March 1, 10 a.m. 

Salado Museum and College Park will host a presentation by renowned historian, Keith George, in the Lucile A. Robertson Center at 10:00am on Saturday, March 1.The talk will focus on the Stillhouse Hollow Dam project, which necessitated the relocation of cemeteries from the valley along the Lampasas River where many of Salado’s early settlers were buried. GEORGETOWN SWIRL

March 1, 5:30-8:30 p.m. 

The 15th annual Georgetown Swirl — featuring Texas wine, downtown shopping and local food — will take place this year on March 1 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. This year’s theme is Ruby Reds and Roses to celebrate the anniversary of the event. Each attendee will receive a commemorative tasting glass and can choose 10 wine tastings from participating local restaurants. Each ticket is $60. CHASE THE CHIEF 5K AND FUN RUN

March 2, noon

The annual Chase the Chief 5K and Family Fun Run is a joint fitness initiative by the Georgetown Police Department, Georgetown ISD and the Georgetown Health Foundation. The run helps fund grants for physical education programs at Georgetown area schools.

BROWN SYMPOSIUM AT SOUTHWESTERN

March 4-6

Southwestern University hosts its Brown Symposium biannually. The university sets a topic, with guest speakers leading lectures and discussions. The symposium takes place at the Alma Thomas Fine Arts Center. This year’s theme is “Visualizing the Abstract,” and features speakers who work with a variety of visual media and ideas to make the intangible more tangible for themselves and for others through storytelling, metaphor and craft.  Seating is limited. The show features clothes, purses filled with accessory items and costume jewelry. Items are modeled by AAUW members. The event raises funds for women finishing degrees. Market Days on the Square

Georgetown’s Market Days take place on the Square every second Saturday of the month from March through November. The event includes local vendors, live music, food and drinks, beginning at 9 a.m. It is organized by the Downtown Georgetown Association. 

Wilco Guitar Society welcomes Xavier Jara

March 9, 4 p.m.

The Wilco Guitar Society will host 2016 Guitar Foundation of America award recipient Xavier Jara at the Penfold Theatre in Round Rock. Mr. Jara is a Minnesota native who has traveled around the world playing guitar. The Penfold Theatre is located at 2120 North Mays Street No. 290. The Dialog Institute Ramadan Iftar

The Raindrop Foundation and the Dialog Institute are hosting their third annual multi-faith Ramadan Iftar meal in the Jester Annex Community Room, 1801 East Old Settlers Boulevard in Round Rock. TEXAS PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL

March 15, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Texas Photography Festival began in March 2019. Hosted by local photographer David Valdez and the Williamson Museum, the festival provides an opportunity for photographers to capture the beauty of Georgetown. The festival is held on the Square in Georgetown, and  features well-known photographers and instructors who lead a series of educational workshops designed to increase skill levels and uncover hidden talents. PFLAG Georgetown Support Group Meeting

PFLAG Georgetown is a chapter of PFLAG, the country's first and largest organization dedicated to supporting, educating and advocating for LGBTQ+ people and their families. The organization holds a monthly support group for parents and allies of the LGBTQ+ community, as well as for members of that community. Legacy Grandparenting Summit

Jason Pennington Memorial Clay Shoot

On March 30, the Georgetown community will come together to honor the life and legacy of Jason Pennington, a 16-year-old Georgetown High School multi-sport athlete who passed away October 15, 2024. The Jason Pennington Memorial Clay Shoot will take place at  Reunion Ranch in Georgetown, featuring a day of competitive shooting,community fellowship, and fundraising to support youth lacrosse. It’s an opportunity for the community to rally around Jason’s memory and support the Georgetown Lacrosse program, a nonprofit organization. Registration deadline is March 15. The third-annual Two Step Inn country music festival takes place in San Gabriel Park April 5 and 6. RED POPPY FESTIVAL

April 25-27

Georgetown is the Red Poppy Capital of Texas, with the European flower blooming throughout  much of Old Town in the spring. The city hosts the annual Red Poppy Festival to highlight both the flower’s rarity and the Georgetown community at large, with local vendors, parades, family activities and concerts scheduled throughout the weekend. This year’s festival will take place April 25-27.
