Peggy Springer

Peggy Marie (Johnston Nedwick) Springer of Georgetown, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born Peggy Marie Johnston on August 22, 1947, in Mount Pleasant, Pennsylvania.

Peggy grew up on the Johnston family farm in Greensburg, Pennsylvania with her mother, grandpa and grandma, aunts, uncles and cousins. After her mother married in 1960, Peggy moved to Elyria, Ohio, with her mother, Mae E. (Johnston) Nedwick, and adoptive father, Andrew M. Nedwick, where she entered eighth grade at Thomas Jefferson School. She graduated from Elyria High School in 1965.

Peggy was active in the PTA at Windsor Elementary School in Elyria. She was in a bowling league as well as several card playing groups and was a member of the British car club, LoCo Brits. She enjoyed attending her high school reunions and was on the reunion planning committee for many years.

Peggy worked at Harmon Service in Lorain, Ohio, for several years. She later worked for the Elyria Telephone Company which became Alltel and later Windstream where she was a Sales and Customer Specialist. She retired in 2008, after more than a 25-year career. After retiring she worked for a few years at Macy’s at Midway Mall in Elyria.

After retiring, she spent several winters in Sun City, a 55 and over community, in Georgetown, Texas near her daughter and her family. She permanently moved to Sun City in 2013. She was active in many groups in Sun City including Women Helping Others (WHO), Circle of Friends, Red Hats, Neighborhood Womens’ Breakfast Group, Neighborhood Block Captain, The Ohio Club, What’s Cooking Club, Ladies’ Luncheon Group, Chic Flix Movie Group, Sun City Democrats Club, Zoomers and various card playing groups.

Her family was very important to Peggy. She loved her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren without measure. She moved from her long-time home in Ohio to Texas in order to be closer to her family. She was a devoted grandmother to her three grandchildren, never missing a birthday party, school event, sporting event or graduation.

Friendships were also important to Peggy. She made friends everywhere she went and, more importantly, maintained friendships from every phase of her life.

She loved Facebook, sharing her daily adventures, what she was cooking that day, and family pictures. It also enabled her to keep up with her many friends across the country.

She loved spending time in her kitchen cooking and baking. She enjoyed learning and playing new card games, reading and crocheting.

Preceded in death by her mother, Mae (Johnston) Nedwick, her adoptive father, Andrew Nedwick, and her beloved cousin, Donna (Johnston) Metz.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Jennifer (Springer) O’Neal and husband, Sean O’Neal, of Austin, Texas; her cherished grandchildren, Natalie (O’Neal) Mullins and husband, Darrell Mullins, of Austin, Texas, Caroline (O’Neal) Pritchett and husband, Austin Pritchett, of Bloomington, Indiana, and Spencer O’Neal of Austin, Texas; the heartbeat at her feet, her dog, Joey; and several cousins.

Peggy had a zest for life and lived every day to its fullest. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and generosity. She will be loved and missed forever.

Her family will host a Celebration of Life in Georgetown, Texas on March 9, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the Cowan Creek Golf Club in Sun City. Her family will also host a Celebration of Life in Ohio on March 23, 2025. Peggy’s ashes will be scattered amongst loved ones in cemeteries in Ohio and Pennsylvania.
