Spring festival ahead
The 26th annual Red Poppy Festival takes place on the Georgetown Square April 25-27. The three day festival will have vendors, entertainment, music and fun for the whole family.
Texas country singer-songwriter Cory Morrow will headline on Saturday, April 26.
The country artist is known for songs like “The Man I’ve Been,” “Texas on My Mind” and “Always and Forever.”
Mr. Morrow’s performance is from 8:30-10 p.m. on the Red Poppy Stage. Mackenzie Carpenter will open the show at 7 p.m. All Poppy Fest concerts are free and open to the public.
The Friday night concert will feature Dysfunkshun Junkshun.
Other festival events include the Red Poppy Parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday and the Red Poppy Pet Parade at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. The annual car show starts Saturday at 11:30 a.m.
Attendees can bring their own chairs and coolers if they are coming to the Square for the day.
Parking
Pickup locations are Georgetown High School and East View High School, and riders will be dropped off across from the Georgetown Public Library, about two blocks from the activities on the Square. The shuttle will begin running at 9 a.m. and the last shuttle of the day will leave downtown at about 11 p.m. on Saturday. It will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Parking in the Old Town neighborhoods will be limited and towing will be enforced.
The parking lot at 10th Street and Main Street is reserved for those with mobility challenges. A placard or license plate designation will be required. There is also handicap parking on Eighth and Forest Streets.
The Williamson County parking garage located at Rock and Fourth streets, and the parking lot on Austin Avenue between Fifth and Fourth Streets, will be open. The lots at Martin Luther King Jr. Street and West Eighth Street and West Sixth Streets will also be open.
RideShare drop off and pick up with WiFi access can be found at MLK Jr. Street and Ninth Street. The city parking lot at Sixth and Main Streets will close at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 24.
Street closures
Austin Avenue will close Friday, April 26 at 6 a.m. from Sixth to Tenth streets. Traffic will be detoured to Rock Street. Austin Avenue will be closed through April 27 at 11 p.m.
Other streets around the courthouse will also close at 6 a.m. on April 25 to allow for vendor setup. Streets around the Square will remain closed through April 27 at 11 p.m.
