Construction crews began early morning on June 26, 2012 tearing down the exterior of the city-owned building on Main Street. Workers used power saws, handheld jackhammers and a specially outfitted bobcat to take down the brick building piece-by-piece. Georgetown’s Historic Architecture Review Commission is working with city staff to update policies about demolitions in the historic district.
To obtain a demolition permit, property owners in the historic district must argue their property falls into one or more of the following criteria:
